Semifinal Football Update

November 7, 2011

Of the 10 semifinal games across Montana’s five classifications for high school football, only one game time has been announced. Miles City will play Billings Central on Saturday at 1 p.m. in a Class A State Semifinal game at Wendy’s Field at Daylis Stadium in Billings.

It will be a rematch of last season’s state championship, when the visiting Cowboys beat the host Rams on a snowy field in Billings. The Eastern A foes met earlier this season in Miles City, with the Rams coming away with the 26-0 win at Denton Field.

We’ll post the Saturday Semifinal schedule as soon as possible.

Our direction …

October 2, 2011

from Ben Catley

When Big Sky Preps started in September 2010, the intent was to be able to deliver the scores from all around the state as well as stories from around the state, then add the element of having stats for teams, and place it in one location for fans, members of the media and others to come check all of that out in one place.

The biggest lesson learned a year later is that all of that takes a good chunk of time and money. Unfortunately, last spring, the money well ran dry, and with that went the Scoreboard Show and nearly everything we had done. It just happened. Things like this happen in the business world.

So there’s two things that I could have done … one of them is to let this go away. In fact, the smart thing to do would be to let this go away and not worry about it anymore. Chalk it all up to a life experience and move on.

However, when you have had this in your head that it will work in Montana as long as I have – since sitting in the alley just off Main Street in Miles City in March 2006 with Steve Stroud, whom I was working with at the time, imaging the infrastructure needed to pull it off – someone like me just can’t walk away from it that easily. Tweaks for next week …

September 24, 2011

We will be making some tweaks to the blog when it comes to finals for next week. The good news is that each classification will have their own entry, and won’t all be on the same story. Plus, with that move, we can also separate the teams into their respective conferences, without making for an overwhelming read. Read the rest of this entry »

Sunburst cancels softball season

April 5, 2011

Due to low participation, the Sunburst softball team has been forced to cancel its season. According to an e-mail from Sunburst School Superintendent Tim Tharp, the school will begin to search for participation sooner next season, and will also attempt to co-op next season if participation numbers stay at a low level.

The move leaves the Class B-C East with 10 teams, and 19 total teams in the classification.
