When Big Sky Preps started in September 2010, the intent was to be able to deliver the scores from all around the state as well as stories from around the state, then add the element of having stats for teams, and place it in one location for fans, members of the media and others to come check all of that out in one place.
The biggest lesson learned a year later is that all of that takes a good chunk of time and money. Unfortunately, last spring, the money well ran dry, and with that went the Scoreboard Show and nearly everything we had done. It just happened. Things like this happen in the business world.
So there’s two things that I could have done … one of them is to let this go away. In fact, the smart thing to do would be to let this go away and not worry about it anymore. Chalk it all up to a life experience and move on.
However, when you have had this in your head that it will work in Montana as long as I have – since sitting in the alley just off Main Street in Miles City in March 2006 with Steve Stroud, whom I was working with at the time, imaging the infrastructure needed to pull it off – someone like me just can’t walk away from it that easily.
